Important Return to School Information for Fayette County Schools: Connersville High School and the Whitewater Career Center will return to school next week following a "Hybrid Schedule". As Monday, January 4th is a teacher day only in the FCSC, Hybrid Groups at CHS and WCC will attend on Tuesday/Thursday or Wednesday/Friday. CHS and WCC administration will be sending out additional details to students and families. For our preschool, elementary and middle schools in the FCSC, we will operate on a regular schedule when students return on January 5th. We will continue to evaluate our data each day in coordination with the health department as we closely monitor positive cases and quarantine numbers following the holiday break.

Dear FCSC Families and Staff, While our COVID-19 numbers were starting to flatten in Fayette County prior to Thanksgiving, we are seeing a significant increase in positive cases and close-contact quarantines in the last two days. As we continue to communicate with the health department to seek their guidance as we follow our safety plans to keep our schools open, the number of quarantines and positive cases among students at Connersville High School in the last few days continues to grow. We monitor our attendance rates daily at all of our school buildings, as well as the number of positive cases, pending test results, or quarantined students and staff. Connersville High School is our greatest concern with a growing number of students required to be quarantined as a result of possible exposures to family, friends, or fellow students who tested positive for COVID-19. We are doing our best to continue to keep our schools free of any outbreaks of COVID-19; however, the week following Thanksgiving has really impacted Fayette County. Currently, our elementary and middle school buildings are not at a point where we need to alter their schedules, but we are watching these buildings, especially our middle school. Beginning Monday, December 7th, Connersville High School will move back to a "Hybrid" schedule. Our plan now is to keep CHS on a hybrid schedule for the week of December 7th-11th and we will re-evaluate the situation on Friday, December 11th and notify our students and families. CHS will follow the same "Hybrid" schedule that was utilized November 16-24, prior to Thanksgiving. CHS administration will be communicating more details to students and families later today. For our preschool, elementary and middle school buildings, we will continue to operate on a regular schedule. As we look at the data related to our quarantines and positive cases, our high school has been, by far, our most significant challenge. While this remains a fluid situation, we do not believe that it is necessary to close our PreK-8th grade buildings at this time. Whitewater Career Center will continue to operate on a regular schedule for the students who attend from six area high schools. The WCC Director will be communicating with CHS students who attend WCC programs with more information related to attendance or transportation questions. Again, we will continue to closely monitor our data at our other school buildings in the coming days. Thank you for your understanding and support as we continue to face the challenges with this virus. Scott Collins Superintendent Fayette County Schools

The revised guidelines on quarantines from the CDC are supported by the Indiana State Dept of Health and the Fayette County Health Department. Fayette County Schools will begin utilizing the new 10-day quarantine guidelines effective immediately. As a reminder, the need to quarantine is due to an individual identified through contact tracing as having been in close contact with a Covid-19 positive person for 15 or more minutes. Additionally, our state and local health departments are recommending, at this time, that we only utilize the 10-day quarantine period as the volume of Covid-19 tests for the seven-day quarantine period are creating up to a week of a delay on results. Below are the new guidelines Fayette County Schools will follow for 10-day quarantines: · Quarantine can end after Day 10 (of possible exposure date) without testing if no symptoms have been reported during daily monitoring. The 10-day window begins when the employee or student was last exposed to a positive Covid-19 person for at least 15 minutes. Example: John ate dinner with his friend and they were in close contact for 45 minutes on December 1st. The friend was having some minor symptoms the day she was with John. The friend was tested on December 2nd and received positive Covid-19 test results on December 4th. John will need to quarantine immediately and his 10-day quarantine period starts on December 1st, when he was in close contact with his friend who tested positive. John was not tested and continues to have no symptoms. John can return to school on December 11th so long as he remains symptom-free. John should take extra precautions with social-distancing and wearing of his mask through the full 14-day time period, but may return after 10 days of quarantine from his date of exposure. #FCSCSpartanPride
