Active and Dormant Volcanoes

 

The Philippines are home to about 20 active volcanoes. Out of these, the most active is Mayon Volacano. Its recent eruptions were in 1993, 2000, 2001, and 2003.

Mount Pinatubo, another active volcano, is the source of one of the most deadly eruptions worldwide. After being dormant for 600 years, it erupted in a deadly show of triggered avalanches and monsoons as well as pyroclastic flows.

Mount Apo, the Philippines' highest mountain, is unique in the way of its three peaks. It is active as well.

Taal Volcano is the second most active volcano in the Philippines. Taal has erupted 33 times since 1572. Its most recent eruption was in 1999.

Mount Canlaon erupted in 2003 and is still active.

Hibok-hibok erupted in 1951, causing 500 deaths, and has been dormant ever since.
