Timeliner and The Graph Club are useful software programs from Tom Snyder Productions. If you do not have these, you can download demo versions from here.

Election "things"

Upstart has several themes: Elect to Read, Books Get our Vote, and Vote for Books with buttons, posters, bookmarks, book bags, etc. Request a catalog or order from 1-800-448-4887 I highly recommend these items!!!

Elections - Primary a Teacher Created resource book with great ideas - a must have. TCM 2618 about $10

The Election Activity Book (YJH-966826) for grades 1-3 and Candidates, Campaigns, & Elections (YJH - 956033) for grades 4-8 from Scholastic Teacher Resources

The Aug./Sept. 2000 Intermediate Mailbox magazine has an election unit. I found lots of useful activities (pdf files) at themailbox.companion site.

Online Lesson Plans

KidsVotingUSA offers 2 excellent lesson plans - A Voting Chain and The Wish Tree

Voting is Elementary - lesson plan where students will vote for an animal to be your class mascot. Then they'll create a wish tree by listing what they'd wish for America! Teacher's resource

Be Ad Smart - a pdf file for creating a political TV ad. (Use Kid Pix or another slide show program for a technology twist or video tape a commercial.)

From the Wilderness to the White House - a timeline activity. Adapt this to the election. Use Timeliner as a technology tool.
