Project Overview

This Internet project is suggested for students in grades 1-3. Students are invited to participate in election activities that will lead to voting for their favorite book characters, Arthur or Miss Frizzle. Register the by new exrtended date of October 27, 2004.
"Election 2004" is a developmentally appropriate hands-on, technology rich project that will help develop students' concepts of the election process and how Americans select their leaders. In the culminating activity, a voting simulation, students will apply their learnings.

OVERVIEW

  • A lead teacher will register for the project. Only one teacher per school should apply. All email contacts, updates, and reminders will be to that person. Once the registration has been received, you will receive an email confirmation and a URL for an official voter registration card.
  • Students will register voters.
  • Students will create and carry out their own campaigns for Arthur and Miss Frizzle.
  • Students may create campaign slogans and buttons that will be posted on this site along with those from other participating classes.
  • Teachers may expand their lessons through the teaching resources and their own curricular materials.
  • Students will direct an election on election day, November 2, 2004 for their class, their grade level, or their school.
  • From their voting results, one electoral vote will be submitted to the project. (Each site is only awarded one electoral vote.) Final results will be posted by November 9, 2004.
  • Students may celebrate the victory (and their hard work and excellent learnings) by holding an inaugural ceremony.

Be creative and adapt these ideas to meet your own needs.

Be sure to follow the scheduled dates and requirements for submissions.
