Campaign Buttons

Students need to create campaign buttons for their candidates. Discuss campaign slogans such as "I like Ike," or "LBJ for the USA." Campaign buttons use slogans and art to gain support for candidates. Remember, buttons are eye-catching and can have symbols, names, and pictures on them. Look at some buttons for ideas.

How to Create Buttons

1. Use Kid Pix, KidWorks, MSpaint or another painting or drawing program that will allow students to create buttons on a computer. Finished buttons can be printed, trimmed, mounted, and then worn.

2. Campaign Button Noncomputer Activity - adapted from CyberBee.com

  • Go to the page with button patterns.
  • Print the page out on your printer.
  • Glue the white paper onto a sheet of cardboard.
  • Cut out the button shapes.
  • Decorate your buttons.

 3. Here are some other ideas to use when decorating your campaign button:

  • Cut out a picture of the character you want to be president from a magazine. Glue it on the button. Trim the edges around the button.
  • Get a picture of the character you want to be president from the Internet. Print the picture. Glue it on the button. Trim the edges around the button.
  • Make a "Vote" button. Decorate your button with colored markers or crayons.

4. Share your creations with other participating classes. (Optional activity)

  • Buttons must be submitted by October 29, 2004. They will be posted on Our Campaign Buttons page.
  • Submit buttons as email attachments to cnewton@fayette.k12.in.us
  • Picture files must be saved as gif or jpg files. (See your tech coordinator, if you have questions.)
  • Or digital photos can be taken of the buttons and sent as email attachments.
