In chapter 14 from The Way to Rainy Mountain by N. Scott Momaday it talks about storms.The way the Kiowas explain the storms is they give them animal characteristics.Some of the characteristics however explain dangerous storms.

In the plains there are always winds.Sometimes the winds are calm and quiet and sometimes they are black and violent.

In the plains the storms are so fierce;they have to have storm cellars to keep safe.

We were on vacation in Florida.It was storming;my dad couldn't see the road.So we pulled over into a store parking lot.We sat there for about fifteen minutes.Finally the rain slowed down.

When we pulled away from the store,a tornado watch came over the radio.I was really scared and I didn't care about anything but getting home safely.As we were driving across a main highway bridge,the wind started blowing reallly hard. We heard something hit our car.My dad wanted to pull over and check it out,but it was raining so he didn't.We just kept driving.We had to stop at a stoplight.As soon as we stopped my brother said "dad,mom,Athena look to your right."So we did and what we saw scared us to death.It was a tornado.It was big,black,and in the shape of a funnel.My mom said "get the camera".My dad just said,"no I'm trying to drive."My dad somehow got us out of the line of cars.

I just hate storms and my brother loves them.I never want to experience that again.I have never been so scared in my life.I thought that I was never going to make it home alive.Storms affect everyone in many different ways.That storm scared me to death.

Storms can affect many people.Some people like storms.The Kiowas have always known how dangerous storms can be.
