My First Kiss

Jesyca

In chapter one in The Way to Rainy Mountain by N. Scott Momaday, the theme is new beginnings. The storyteller describes how the Kiowa began. He tells how the Kiowa began their life by coming out of a log. He also says that their name means “coming out”; just like a new beginning.

The historian talks about how the Kiowa had many different new names. He also talks about what these names meant.

Momaday, speaking in his own voice, describes how he now sees nature compared to how he used to see nature.

It was August 7, 2001 and I was going on a date with my boyfriend, Danny . We were going to see the movie Jurassic Park Three. It was Danny’s thirteenth birthday, so we had planned to kiss the night before on the phone. I was only twelve, so he wanted to kiss more than I did, but I decided to go along with it. So after the movie, we went behind his shed. Danny told his sister, Jessica, to keep a look out while we kissed. We were both really nervous because it was the first time for both of us. After we had finally kissed, his mom took me home.

The next day, I got grounded for one week, but Danny’s mom did not care if we had kissed. My mom got really mad at me for planning the whole thing without her consent. She almost even made me break up with him! After a while though, she got over it and apologized for getting so mad at me for something that was not that big of a deal. M first kiss was like a new beginning. Just like the Kiowa Indians coming in to the new land.

Everyone can agree that your first kiss is like a new beginning. Even people who have not been kissed, can say that you are considered more mature once you have been kissed. Even though it does not seem that important, your first kiss will always be a door way leading to a new beginning of maturity.
