DANGER |
The Way to Rainy MountainAlliThe historian points out how the Kiowa’s handled themselves in dangerous situations. After all the trouble was over the Kiowa’s did not have to worry about their danger anymore. Momaday, speaking in his own voice, tells about a dangerous encounter he had when he was a child. I was in danger on time that I remember very well. I was about eight years old and I was always hyper. Well my mom and I went to my uncle’s house for his wife’s baby shower and I was really excited about the whole thing. I got even more excited when I found out that they had a water park close by their house and all of the children were allowed to go there and swim. When we arrived at my uncle’s house, we showered my aunt with her gifts, played games, and visited with each other for a while. Finally, after what had seemed like forever, we got ready to go swimming. All of the children were running around getting their swimsuits and trunks, and the house was full of excitement. When we got to the water park, it was packed. It was a really hot summer day so we had already expected it be full of people. Luckily the park was huge! On the side of the pool there was this great big water slide. I did not hesitate get on it and go down. Everything was good until I made it to the end of the slide. I flew out into the churning water and I couldn’t reach the bottom. I kept going under and under. Finally I grabbed onto the rope and held tight. I eventually made it out of the pool where my mom ran up and asked me if I was all right, she was angry with herself for not being there to help me. I told her I was fine, but I never wanted to go down that dangerous slide again. Being in danger is not exactly my idea of having fun. I have not been in danger very many times. I do however know some people that have been in danger more than I have; being in trouble is different than being in danger. Being in danger could really affect someone or maybe even hurt him or her. I never want to be in danger again. |
