Testing dates and times by county

TO REGISTER:

You must be a resident of Indiana for at least 30 days.

You must be at least 17 years old. No exceptions!

You must register in person. No one can register for you. Even retests must register in person.

You must present 3 original forms of identification at registration, one of which is a driver's licence or photo ID issued from the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

The person who signs you up for the test will copy the 3 forms. You will then sign the office copy of your ID's. The GED examiner will compare these identifications and your signature the day of the GED Tests.

The office will not accept copies of any identification. Our office staff must make the copies for our records.

You must pay when you register. Retests pay $14.00 for each retest at time of registration.

Payment is good for 30 days only and is nonrefundable after that.

All 17 year old's must have a completed exit interview with you when you register. We must have the practice test form on file before you are allowed to register.

Starting September 2010, the cost to take the complete battery is $70.00, which is paid the day of registration. Retests are $14.00 each.

On the day of the test, you must bring the same picture ID that you used for registration.
Also bring your paid receipt.
You must be signed up by 4 pm the Monday before the test or until all slots are filled. We will not accept registrations the same day of the test. We have a certain number of seats available for each test date, so register as early as you can! If the Monday before the first scheduled testing day is a holiday, then you must sign up by Friday before the test.
The Adult Ed office is open from 8 am to 8 pm Monday through Thursday and 8 am - 4 pm on Friday. Summer hours are weekdays 8 am - 3 pm.

 

In the event of school closing due to bad weather on either testing day,
the test will be finished on the same day of the following week.

In the event of a 2 hour delay or school closing:

Morning testing session:
  • If there is a 2 hour delay on Tuesday, the morning GED test will be moved to the following Tuesday and become the second day of testing.
  • If there is school on Wednesday with no delay, the morning GED test will be given as scheduled and will be the first day of testing.
  • If there is a 2 hour delay on Wednesday, the second day of testing will be rescheduled for the following Wednesday.
Evening testing session:
  • If there is a 2 hour delay on either Tuesday or Wednesday, the evening test will take place as scheduled.
  • If school is closed on Tuesday, the evening test will be moved to Tuesday of the following week and become the second day of testing.
  • If school is closed on Wednesday, the evening test will be moved to Wednesday of the following week.

THE ACTUAL TEST:

Pencils, pens, and scratch paper will be provided for you. If you bring any notebooks, etc., the proctor will hold them for you until you leave.

All 5 GED Tests are timed.

DO NOT BRING A CALCULATOR!

Writing:

75 minutes for multiple choice questions and 45 minutes for essay. (Make sure you use a blue or black ink pen for the esay. Use your pencil for the rest of the test.)

Social Studies:

70 minutes

Science:

80 minutes

Literature:

65 minutes

Math

Part 1 - 45 minutes (Calculator allowed - we will provide)
Part 2 - 45 minutes (No calculator allowed) (90 minutes total test time)

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Language Arts, Writing test:

Sentence structure, correct word usage. Plus, write an essay on a topic that is selected for you. You do not pick your topic to write on! You can print or write your essay. The essay readers must be able to read what you write; otherwise, handwriting does not count.

Social Studies:

Answer questions about history, economics, civics & government, and geography. Recall of facts is not tested.

Science:

Subject matter is drawn from the life sciences, Earth & space sciences, and physical sciences. Questions do not test recall of factual information.

Language Arts, Reading Test:

75% of the test is based on modern and classical literary fiction. 25% is based on non-fiction text, including business documents.

Mathematics:

Measures problem-solving skills and the ability to use a series of steps to solve a problem. Items involve fractions, decimals, per cents, measurement, algebra and geometry. A page of formulas is provided in the test booklet.

  
PASSING THE TEST:

To pass the GED test you must fulfill 2 requirements:

Score at least 410 on each of the 5 tests, And

Attain an average score of 450 per test.

If you have at least 410 on each test but do not make 450 average score:

You can retest after 30 days if you made an average score from 430 - 448.

You can retest after 90 days if you made an average score of 428 or below.

No matter what your total is, if you make below 410 on a test, you must take that test first!

If you fail a retest battery, you will have to wait 6 months before you can take the test in Indiana.

The writing essay test is based on a total score of 4. If you score less than a 2 on the writing essay, your writing score is 0. The multiple choice part of the test is void.

You will receive a 10-minute warning when you have 10 minutes left on each test. If you do not think that you can complete the test in 10 minutes, then darken circles on the remaining questions. Do not leave any questions blank!

All personal items such as purses, coats, caps are to be put under your seat. They are not to sit on the table with you while you are taking the test.

When you finish a test, hold up your hand. The GED examiner will come and collect your test and test form. Then you may leave for a short break. Report back to the proctor when you return from your break. (S)he will then give you the next test.
