
Special Education Show Significant Gain: The number of students in special education making their growth targets increased significantly from 2007-2008 school year to the 2008-2009 school year. One hundred percent of second grade special education students made their growth targets for the 2008-2009 school year in the area of English Language Arts. One hundred percent of third and fourth grade special education students made their growth targets in the area of Mathematics.
Kindergarten Students shoot for the Stars: Eight-eight percent of Maplewood kindergarteners reached the end of the year benchmark on Early Star Reading.
Maplewood School Hosts the Annual Young Authors' Conference: Author Lynne Plourde spoke to students and parents about her books and the process of writing a book. Several area schools attended the two-day conference. Students also brought their books that they had written to share with other students at the conference.
Maplewood Students Hit a Home Run with ISTEP+: Over eighty students enjoyed a game of baseball at Victory Field in Indianapolis after passing both sections of ISTEP+.
Maplewood Spelling Bee Winner: Fourth grader, Treasure Isaacs, was the 2009 Maplewood Spelling Bee winner.
Maplewood Rolls out the Red Carpet: On May 6th, CEO of Carbon Motors, William Li, came to visit Maplewood to receive letters written by fifth grade students on why he should relocate Carbon Motors to Connersville, Indiana. Mr. Li spoke to the students about making career goals and plans, and promised to visit them in the spring of 2010 to see how they were coming with their career goals.
Mrs. McCann's 5th Grade honored at City Council Meeting: The Mayor recognized the efforts of Mrs. McCann's fifth grade students during a city council meeting. Students in Mrs. McCann's classroom wrote persuasive letters to the CEO of Carbon Motors on why they should relocate to the town of Connersville, Indiana.
