On the 2010 ISTEP+, 80% of the third grade students passed both the ELA and math section of the test.
Fourth grade had scores over 80% in all three sections of the 2010 ISTEP+ - 89% in ELA, 83% in science.
Sixth grade scored 83% on the language arts section of the 2010 ISTEP+.
A Back to School Open House was held to welcome students and parents and to introduce teachers.
Alquina is fortunate to have many volunteers. Most of these volunteers repeated during the year. We recognized and thanked our volunteers at our Awards day.
Parent/Teacher Conference were well attended with 100% of our parents attending on the specified dates or at an arranged individual appointment.
The Alquina Student Council sponsored fundraising activities to support Riley Hospital, the Lymphoma Society, Salvation Army and American Red Cross.
Students donated over $1800 this past year to these organizations.
Caitlyn Logan, Brendon Sasser, and Devan Sparks placed first, second and third in the Grade 5 DAR essay contest.
Students participated in the Jump Rope for Heart Program during the year.
Fourth grade students and teacher, Ms. Gabbard, hosted a Verteran's Day program and invited community veterans to honor them.
Each month a specific character trait was emphasized with the students and listed on the monthly calendar.
For the Young Author's Conference, students volunteered to be involved in an after school club.
Each student learned about writing skills and worked on their book over the duration of the class.
All of these student then attended the Young Author's Conference held at Maplewood Elementary. Ms. Gabbard and retired teacher, Mrs. Morris coordinated this club.
Alquina Elementary hosted the author, Lester Laminack, for a morning assembly.
The entire school participated in literacy activities during our "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" Literacy Day.
An Alquina Spelling Bee was held for the fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students. Sixth grader Shelby Boicourt was the school winner.
Students participated in a canned food drive prior to the winter break in support of the Salvation Army.
All students participated in a spring and winter musical celebration.
The Alquina Science Showcase was held on Special Persons' Day with students displaying science projects.
Student Council sponsored Red Ribbon Week.
On Wednesday, May 5th, students and staff participated in A.C.E.S. (all children exercising simultaneously). A fifteen minute exercise program that Mrs. Borders created was followed.
P.T.O. sponsored a fall carnival.
Mrs. Borders planned our Field Day on the last day of school where students participated in various sport stations such as kickball, soccer, and softball.
Alquina sponsored various clubs for students to join such as Young Authors, Intramurals, Choir, Spell Bowl, and Student Council.
Awards Programs were held at the end of the First Semester and at the end of the year for Second Semester and Year End winners.
Alquina sixth grade students were honored with a breakfast celebration with their families to congratulate them and wish them good luck at CMS.
Alquina students went on several educational field trips which included local museums, Fayette County and Connersville points of interest, zoos, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
